Had a wonderful time last weekend, reconnecting after 35 years with Doug David, my sixth grade teacher at OACS in 1972-73. He was "Mr. David" then, he became "Dr. David" later, and I'm thrilled that he's now "Doug" to me.
After a brief teaching stint at OACS - high school in the early 1970s, sixth grade social studies and English for a few years - he got his PhD in education and went to work for Niagara County BOCES. Upon retiring from that, he joined the administration of Canisius's graduate school of education. My daughter Meghan is entering Canisius in August and we incorporated lunch with Doug into our "Accepted Students Day" visit last Saturday.
The years have been kind to him - only fitting, as he was a very kind man, and one of the first "difference-making" teachers I was fortunate enough to have at OACS.
