 Old Oakfield Photos, Volume 5

Boys boxing in the front yard of the Cary Seminary classroom building, on the corner of Pearl and Drake, circa 1880s. From an antique albumen photograph. The seminary was funded in 1840 by Alfred Cary and opened for classes in 1844. It eventually became outdated (no plumbing system or central heating) and was demolished in 1926, and the Pearl Street school was built on its site.
